3 Dangers of Pride
The only heart God can’t touch is a heart closed up with pride. The dangers of pride can be so extreme, they destroy everything about a person’s life. Ambitions. Hopes. Relationships.
What Is Pride?
If you do something with pride, you are only thinking of yourself while you do it. Your selfish desires determine what you do and that causes you to sin. We lust, steal, lie, murder, abuse, insult and hurt others because of pride.
‘I’ is at the center of pride.
Here are the 3 dangers of pride:
P.S. I have started a series on my YouTube channel called ‘Testimonies of Titans’ that YOU can take part in HERE
1. Separates You From God
Pride is always the root cause of sin. Sinning separates us from God. We become so consumed with our desires and our ego that we have no room for God in our lives.
Pride causes us to serve other idols instead of God. This breaks the MOST important commandment in the Bible.
Exodus 20:3 says:
“You shall have no other gods before me.”
When we make anything more important than God, it is because of pride. But staying connected to God is the single most important thing you could do! Because separation from God is a horrible.
John 14:6 says:
‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”’
The only way is to stay connected to Jesus. That gives you infinite value! But you can only do that by staying humble before Him.
2. Destroys Your Destiny
God has a plan for every single human being on the planet, a destiny!
‘“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”’
But we can only fulfill that destiny with God, who makes our paths straight.
If our selfish desires and our emotions control us, then how can we expect anything to change! How can we expect God to help, if we aren’t willing to destroy some of our pride? If we aren’t willing to be humble before Him?
3. Pride Comes Before A Fall
This is a well-known saying, but it comes from the Bible.
Proverbs 16:18 says:
‘Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.’
Imagine you get an A* in your Maths exam paper. You walk home full of confidence. But you become so confident you don’t even pray or revise for next weeks’ paper. Then when the results for next weeks’ paper come back, you get an F… yay.
Pride will make everything about you worse. Your work ethic, your personality, your relationship with God and with others.
In almost every area of life, it can cause you to fall.
James 4:10 says:
‘Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.’
In almost every area of life, humility can cause you to rise up. Because God loves an underdog.
Humility comes before a victory!
