3 Ways To Stop Negative Thinking


The Devil will try to choke you with negative thoughts! He will choke you of all the happiness and joy in your life. He will try to overwhelm you with the cares of this world. Depression. Anxiety. Abuse. Emotions breakdowns. Broken relationships. Stress. Worry. Bad health.

So here are 3 ways to stop negative thinking and reclaim your joy!

1. Stop Listening to the News

The news is a never-ending train of bad news. In fact, it should be called the BAD News!

Social media is just as bad!
 It’s just a continuous stream of the highlight-reels of other people’s lives…

You just keep scrolling…


And scrolling…

And then you find you’re still, scrolling…

Your brain was never designed to process so much information! So much negativity! It wasn’t designed to cope with the 24-hour stream of terrorists, bombings, and shootings from around the world.

I’m not saying we should stop caring about the news or social media, but we need a balance.

Jesus came into the world to bring the GOOD news!

Focus on the GOOD news!

Focus on YOU! Not on social media.

Focus on JESUS! Not the problems in the world.

Luke 8:14 says:

‘The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity.’

Life is more than the problems you face, the clothes you wear or how successful you are. It is more than the riches and pleasure you can get on earth.

Life is about focusing on Jesus and His promises for your life.

Make it easy for yourself, stop listening to negativity. Stop listening to the news. Stop listening to the Devils lies!


2. Stop Wishing You Had More

Do you remember when you wanted something you have NOW!

But are you grateful for it right NOW?

You probably were when you first got it. But fast forward a few weeks and you don’t find it as special anymore.

Riches are deceptive!

Picture something you want right now. It could be a TV, a relationship or a successful business. When you don’t have the thing you want, you think NEGATIVELY!

Why God!? Why can’t I just have this thing?!? Then I would be happy!


You may be happy for a short time, maybe even a few weeks. But then you will just want something else…

Unless you are grateful for the things you do have, you will always think negatively about all the things you don’t have!

Unless you are grateful, you will never have enough. Grateful thinking is the exact opposite of negative thinking!

Think of all the things you have right now!

Ephesians 2:8 says:

‘For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—’

This is what we can all be grateful for! That no matter what you’ve done, or how badly you’ve messed up, we all have an eternal life waiting for us in Heaven! If we choose to accept it.

3. Change the Channel

Think of your mind as a TV.

In your mind, you can switch to any channel you want. You have complete control over what you think!

So what do you do when you are on a channel you don’t like?

You change the channel, obviously!

When negative thoughts come into your mind, change the channel!

You have billions and billions of channels and memories in your mind.

You can think about your future, your dreams, and aspirations. You can think about all the things that you find fun. There’s no limit! You hold the remote control.

Switch your depression channel to your joy channel.

If you find it hard to switch the channels in your mind, just listen to something more joyful. Listen to worship music. Listen to comedy. Listen to motivational talks.

The more you listen to positivity, the more positive thoughts you will have.



To conclude:

Stop listening to the news and scrolling through social media. It will only feed your depression!

Be grateful for what you have. Then you will stop thinking negatively about what you don’t have.

Change the channel in your mind. Think about the things that fill you with joy!
