5 Ways To Get To Sleep Faster

Lying awake in the dead of night when you just want to sleep is a horrible feeling. When you know you’ll be tired the next morning. When worry, anxiety, and fear creep into your head. All you need to do is get to sleep faster and it would all go away.

But you can’t…

To make it worse, the effects of not getting enough sleep include:

  • Decreased attention span.
  • Impaired memory.
  • More likely to gain weight as it causes the release of insulin which causes increased fat storage.
  • Mood changes.
  • Poor balance, so higher risk of injuries.

We need to prioritize getting sleep!

Here are 3 ways to get to sleep FASTER:


1. Try To Stay Awake

We’ve all been in the situation where we are in a classroom and listening to a mind-numbingly boring lecture about the properties and practical uses of iron sulfide…

In those situations, we try to force ourselves to stay awake. But that only makes us more tired!

We can apply the same reverse psychology to when we actually need to sleep.

Force yourself to stay awake, try to keep your eyes open or your mind alert. You may start to feel sleepy quicker than you think, like in that lecture.

The harder you try to sleep, the more likely it is you will fail!


2. Leave Your Phone In A Different Room

An hour before you go to bed you should charge your phone in another room. Leave it to downstairs if you have to, and stop looking at any kind of screen.

When you look at your phone, the photons of light that hit your eyeballs tell your brain it’s not time to sleep. Melatonin is the hormone that regulates your sleep. When you look at your phone melatonin production is decreased.

So, you stay wide awake!


3. Take a Warm Bath Or Shower

Have a warm bath or shower. When you get out, it causes a rapid decrease in body temperature. As a result, it slows down processes in the body, like heart rate and digestion, which makes it easier for your body to shut down.

Washing your face in cold water immediately after a bath or shower makes this even more effective.


4. Wear Socks

Wearing socks in bed increases blood flow to your feet which means you have a cooler core body temperature. This also slows down certain processes in the body and helps you fall asleep faster.

It’s also nice to have warm feet 😊

5. Blink Rapidly

Blink rapidly for a minute straight! Your eyelids should start to get tired and droopy. As a result, the rest of your body will also begin to droop.

Trying to keep your eyelids active by blinking rapidly means they use up energy, so they eventually get weaker and just want rest.


Whether you choose to apply all of these tips or just one of them, it should have a significant effect on how fast you fall asleep.
