How To ENJOY Reading The Bible #3

Do you struggle reading the Bible?

I have one quick tip for you that will help you to enjoy the word of god much MUCH more.

LITERALLY, all I ask is that you subscribe to my weekly newsletter at the top of this article. I post weekly articles of encouragement and practical advice on how you can draw closer to God every day!

So here is the tip.

Pray the word of God.

I’m going to explain how you can pray the word of God in the best possible way so that you can get the MOST enjoyment out of this experience.

Here is an example.

Jeremiah 29:11 says:

‘“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”’

Ok. OK. We have a verse. But what NOW?

In this verse, God is telling us he has good plans for our lives.

So… (and here it gets interesting).

I can pray a specific prayer about my life that aligns with that promise. The bottom line is, if we trust God and ask him for help, the BEST POSSIBLE plan for our life will happen.

So, we can pray for that plan, SPECIFICALLY for SPECIFIC details, SPECIFICALLY. It will be different for every person.

For example…

I prayed, “Lord, before the year 2021, I pray that I would have EXACTLY 1000 subscribers on my YouTube channel.” So, I basically prayed that on the 31st of December 2020, I would hit 1000 subscribers.

I care a LOT about my YouTube channel. I want to produce weekly content to help you because I know you are probably going through the same struggles that I am going through (e.g. worrying, overthinking, feeling far away from God).

So, I want to share advice about the things that have GREATLY helped me. You can even help this prayer become a reality by subscribing here.

But it is crucial that your prayer is SPECIFIC. If it is, you can get excited to see if it will happen.

Make a specific prayer about something you care about.

What is something that you care about? Pray about it. Believe God will do something. And watch the situation change around you as a result.

Everyone cares about something. Everyone wants to be successful at something. It could be a relationship or a future dream. So, pray a specific prayer about it. It’s incredible, isn’t it? How we can pray.

You can do this with almost any verse of the bible!

Just this morning, I was reading proverbs chapter two, about how God grants wisdom to those who ask.

Proverbs 2:6 says:

‘For the LORD grants wisdom!’

So, I asked God for wisdom. I saw the verse of the bible, and I ASKED GOD!

I KNEW if I prayed a specific prayer for wisdom, then he would give it to me. I believe he would, and I think he has, at least to some degree… 😀

This is an excellent way to ENJOY reading the bible much much more. It’s more active. You’re asking God for specific things, and it’s so exciting when you can pray specific prayers.

I’ve prayed for so many specific things in my life.

For example…

A few weeks ago I was playing football with some friends on the beach. A young boy was playing with us who really liked football. I prayed he would be the one to score the winning goal because I knew that would make him happy.

He did score the winning goal!

But the crazy part is, I prayed A FEW SECONDS before he actually scored it. The final score was 3-2, and we got the win!

But he scored only A FEW SECONDS after I prayed. Coincidence? I think not.

The Bible is excellent. It has so many verses you can pray specific prayers about.

So for this article, I flipped to a COMPLETELY RANDOM page of the Bible and put my finger on a verse.

This was the verse.

Luke 13:1 says:

“About this time Jesus was informed that Pilate had murdered some people from Galilee as they were offering SACRIFICES at the Temple.”

Random verse, I know.

But if you read this verse, pray God would allow you to be more SACRIFICIAL with your time.

These people were offering sacrifices at the temple. Whenever we sacrifice to God, he always blesses us in return. He always gives us FAR MORE than we give. If you give him something small, he will give you a MUCH LARGER thing in return.

God will happily give you gratitude and generosity (if you ask) because he loves those two things.

Whenever I’ve felt too selfish to give something (e.g. money or whatever), I’ve prayed SPECIFICALLY that God would give me gratitude and generosity.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 says:

‘The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.’

Pray that God will make you a cheerful giver.

Pray something and see if God does it.

You will enjoy the Bible much more.

This is the 3rd article in a series of 5 about ‘How To ENJOY Reading The Bible’.

This morning I combined all 3 of the tips covered so far, into my bible reading. I read the bible slowly, while listening to music, and I prayed the Bible. It was a fantastic experience.

Reading the Bible is essential, and I mean ESSENTIAL if we want to be like Jesus and be close to him. So, wouldn’t it be amazing if we actually ENJOYED reading the Bible every day?

I also created 5 videos for this series. If you ENJOY watching videos more than reading blog posts, the YouTube playlist is here.
