What To Do When God Says... no.

How To Connect With God Effortlessly

Life often moves too fast for us to connect with God! Through our phones, the internet, and technology, it is very easy to get things in an instant. That’s not our fault! It’s just the world we live in. But then how do we find time to connect with God?

Connecting with God is the key to eternal life!

Jesus said Himself in Matthew 7:22-23:

‘On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’  But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’’

Being a Christian means having a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus!

If you truly believe Jesus died to forgive you of your sins, you will want to seek a relationship with Him. Because of His love for you.

If one of your friends took a bullet to the chest for you, wouldn’t you love them for it?

So here’s how you can learn to connect with God effortlessly:

1. Find Your Own Unique Style

Everyone is different! Some people can kneel and pray for an hour. Others find it hard to pray even for a minute or two.

Christian author Gary Thomas talked about this in his book ‘Sacred Pathways’. He said there are 9 spiritual styles and different people respond better to different styles.

Here are the 9 spiritual styles:

1. Naturalists

You draw closer to God by being in nature. You marvel at the incredible beauty of God’s creation.

2. Sensates

You draw closer to God by interacting with your five senses. You love worship music, expressing yourself through art, dancing, laughing and sharing meals in a way that honors God.

3. Traditionalists

You like being disciplined about your faith. Draw closer to God through traditions, like Going to church every Sunday, praying at certain times of the day and fasting.

4. Ascetics

You draw close to God when you’re alone, away from any distractions. For example, praying alone in your room, driving without the radio on or exercising without listening to music. Just being alone with God.

5. Activists

You go out and interact with the world, wanting to make an active change! You draw close to God through evangelism, working with large groups of people and helping the poor.

6. Caregivers

You love God by loving others. You help people practically, serving those in need, or support them through a tough time in their lives, e.g. if someone is battling addictions, anxiety or depression.

7. Enthusiasts

You enjoy celebrating the good news and see every good gift as a gift from God. You are very enthusiastic and express your faith through dancing and movement. You just let go, baby!

8. Contemplatives

You live for the love of God and want nothing more than to gaze lovingly into His face. You give God time and space, think about how incredible God’s love is for you and talk to Him throughout the day whenever you’re alone.

9. Intellectuals

You draw closer to God by learning about Him. For example, by memorizing scripture, teach other Christians about the Bible, and have your mind stimulated by podcasts and books.

2. Have A Balance

Different spiritual styles connect us to God more easily than others. But do not to get too caught up in only ONE spiritual style.

If you are ONLY a ‘Traditionalist’ you may believe the ONLY way to please God is to go to church, read the Bible and pray at certain times of the day.

This is not true!

Yes, church, prayer and the Bible are VERY important (Especially prayer)!

But not engaging with any other spiritual styles can make you spiritually dead!

It may stop you expressing yourself, helping other people, appreciating the incredible world God has created, and taking joy in knowing He loves you unconditionally!

3. Some Encouragement

If you are worried that you find it hard to connect to God, don’t be!

I’m guessing you’ve read to the end of this article because you want to draw closer to Him. Because you want to do your best to connect with Him.

Hebrews 11:6 says:

‘But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.’

If you are doing your best to diligently seek Him, you are doing the best you can do! EVEN IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING!

If you are doing your best to seek God, he will reward you! If you are always actively trying to have a better relationship with God (like through reading this article), you already have one of the healthiest relationships with God you can have!

Because he rewards those who diligently seek Him!

Remember, Jesus loves you so much that he DIED for you! Believe this in your heart and you will have eternal life!

By seeking a relationship with God, you will MASSIVELY strengthen this belief.
