What Do You Worship?
What Do You Worship?
As human beings, we are all designed to worship something. Whether we worship a God, another person, a new technology or a sport, we all have something we are passionate about. Google’s definition of worship is: ‘showing reverence or adoration for something’. Whatever we worship, we worship because we get joy and happiness from it.
But what you worship has a MASSIVE impact on your life.
Psalm 37:4 says:
‘Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.’
Get your joy and happiness from Jesus, because he loves you, and he will give you the desires of your heart. In other words, worshiping Jesus always has the best possible impact on your life.
So, how do we get our joy and happiness from Jesus?
Other things often seem so much more appealing because they give us immediate satisfaction. So then, how do I love God more? How do I love Jesus more than social media, or gaming, or any lustful desires?
It comes from the knowledge that Jesus loves you. But this isn’t just any kind of love, he loves you so much that he died for you!
‘Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.’
When Jesus died on the cross to give you life, he showed the highest degree of love.
We find it hard to believe this because we feel like God has abandoned us to deal with our problems. In reality, God has been there the whole time. But we haven’t found joy in knowing that the creator of the universe loves us.
He cares for you and knows every intricate detail about your life, he knows how many hairs are on your head and every time you sit down or stand up. Yet, we still don’t trust him or love him back.
People say they don’t trust Jesus or don’t believe in him because they can’t see any evidence of goodness in their lives. The problem is we often never include him in the first place or take a minute to pray or appreciate him. He desires to have a relationship with you!
If you have never included or trusted Jesus before, do it now! It won’t give you any immediate satisfaction, but the long-term rewards will be incomparable. He will give you the desires of your heart.
‘Lord Jesus, I am sorry when I don’t trust you. Thank you that you loved me so much you died for me. Help me to have joy, knowing that you pursue me, that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I realize that you can’t do anything significant in my life unless I trust you, so I trust you now.’
Pray for the things that are specific to your life
Worshiping Jesus is taking joy in knowing that he loves you.
In John 15:9, Jesus says:
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.”
